Development of Nursing Resources Management Information Model based on nursing intensity

Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this study was to develop a Nursing Resources Management Information Model(NRMIM) based on nursing intensity in a hospital.

Methods : This study was a theoretical study on proposing a nursing information model that can manage nursing resources effectively. The 2-steps of the systematic software development methodology was adapted to this study ; Analysis and Design. A hospital information system operated in a hospital of over 1,000 beds has been analyzed focusing on usable databases to support evidence-based nursing resource administration.

Results : This study derived necessity of a nursing staff scheduling system, a patient classification system, personnel management system, and an optimal nursing manpower estimating system from the analyzing step. Then a NRMIM was developed to integrate with this hospital information system. This NRMIM based on nursing intensity is a synthesized new nursing information model of Thomas(1986)¡¯s nursing management process and this analyzed results of the hospital information structure.

Conclusion :This nursing information model is expected to be useful to effective and flexible decision making of nursing resource administration. The main challenge is how we realize this information model to support evidence-based nursing resource administration.
